Ruth Lipscomb, Secretary/Treasurer
Nick Hanauer, President
Nick Hanauer, president, co-founded the League of Education Voters with Lisa Macfarlane in 2001. He created the Second Avenue Partners, a Seattle-based venture capital company. Nick serves on the boards of the Cascade Land Conservancy, the University of Washington Foundation, the Seattle Alliance for Education, and the University of Arizona’s Mt. Lemmon SkyCenter and Biosphere 2.
Steve Miller, Vice President
Steve Miller, vice president, is a founding board member of the League of Education Voters and wrote statewide Initiative 728 and 884. He is a lawyer, vice chair of the Board of Trustees for Bellevue Community College, and previously served for 10 years as a school board member for Bellevue School District.
Ruth Lipscomb, Secretary/Treasurer
Ruth Lipscomb, secretary/treasurer, is a retired software engineer who now invests her time in philanthropic interests. Ruth serves on the boards for the League of Education Voters, the Progress Alliance of Washington, and the Oregon State University Foundation.
Blair Butterworth
Blair Butterworth heads Blair Butterworth & Associates, a political consulting firm based in Seattle. He is also a board member of Schools First, a grassroots, citizen-based organization founded in 1995 to inform voters about upcoming school levies and to direct efforts toward ensuring their passage.
Roger Erskine
Roger Erskine is a founding board member of the League of Education Voters. He chairs the Center for Ethical Leadership and the Seattle Cross City Campaign for Urban School Reform. A former teacher and assistant principal, Roger has held leadership positions with the Education Associations of Seattle, South Dakota, Pennsylvania, and Minnesota, and he advises the Teacher Union Reform Network and School for Tomorrow.
Jim Fridley
Jim Fridley is a professor in the College of Forest Resources and in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Washington. He also serves as the Deputy Faculty Legislative Representative for 2008-09.
Eric Liu
Eric Liu is an author and educator who has served in leadership roles in national politics and media. He served as a speechwriter for President Bill Clinton in his first term and as Deputy Domestic Policy Adviser in the second. After leaving the White House, he was an executive at the digital media company RealNetworks. He serves on the boards of numerous civic organizations, including the Washington State Board of Education, the Seattle Public Library, and Demos.
Philip Lloyd
Phil Lloyd has been involved in advocacy for public school levy and bond measures for over 15 years, at both the local and state level. As a contract CFO in Seattle, he specializes in financial management for non-profit organizations. He is a product of the Bellevue School District and has a bachelor’s degree in Finance from Washington State University. He and his wife Karen live in Seattle and have two children who are graduates from the Seattle School District; both currently attend Western Washington University.
Bob Roseth
Bob Roseth is the director of the Office of News and Information at the University of Washington, which is the central public information office for the university, handling media relations for all campus units outside of health sciences. Bob has a BS from MIT and an MA from the University of Missouri.
David Schaefer
David Schaefer is the Director of Public Affairs at the Woodland Park Zoo. Most recently, he was Assistant Director of Public Affairs for the Port of Seattle. Schaefer spent 23 years as a reporter and editor for The Seattle Times, where he worked as the Washington D.C. correspondent for four years. He serves on the Board of the Washington News Council and is the former chairman of Edmonds Citizens for Schools.
