The League of Education Voters in partnership with Democrats for Education Reform, Excellent Schools Now and Stand for Children presents an evening with journalist Steven Brill. Brill’s latest book – CLASS WARFARE: Inside the Fight to Fix America’s Schools – is a compelling and sure-to-be-controversial narrative of the push for reform that has accelerated rapidly in town halls, in state capitals, and on Capitol Hill in recent years following President Obama’s Race to the Top contest. He tackles hotly debated questions about how to measure teacher competency and set salaries, the role of teachers’ unions, the struggle within the Democratic Party between reformers and old-school union loyalists, and policies like “last in, first out” that require that teachers get laid off based purely on seniority rather than performance.
