We have a mess on our hands.
It’s a mess that we largely helped to create and then ignored or defined as too much to tackle except through small, incremental change.
But it’s time. The change we need is going to take nothing short of an education revolution. And it’s going to take more than a few dreamers and do-gooders to make it happen. It’s going to take all of us.
Take a look at the results of the current way of doing things. Do you think it’s enough?
Our schools need a transformation. Our kids need help. We need to own up to the problems. It’s time for a revolution.
Let’s create schools and districts that value transparency, accountability, authentic parent engagement, not to mention a shared commitment to programs and systems of learning that enable high student achievement and an ever diminishing achievement gap. Let’s call “bull” on system-wide excuses for under performance and keep our kids’ futures at the center of our work. Let’s join arms, voices, and resources to demand improvement from those who are far too comfortable with the status quo.
There’s never been a better time and there’s never been a more critical time. The national focus on education and student achievement is the wind at our back – and statewide, the reforms we’ve already passed in the past two legislative sessions need to – MUST BE – implemented with the focus squarely on our kids. The time for the old way of doing things is over. Passing statewide system changes is necessary, but NOT SUFFICIENT for our children.
Passive disapproval just isn’t going to cut it anymore. It’s time to make some noise. Enlist your friends. Talk to your co-workers and neighbors. Join the revolution. We need your help to bring more voices to this movement, more leg power to the march ahead, more political power to the cause of this generation.
