Kent Schools

A conversation has been taking place all around the City of Kent regarding what we as a community value in our schools. What educational outcomes do we strive towards above all others and how do we set ourselves on a clear path to reach those outcomes?

As a community we believe many factors that influence student outcomes are decided at the bargaining table. It is our goal to share this dialogue, which represents our voice as a community, with the bargaining teams during teacher contract negotiations.

We hope that they will reflect on it and let it play a role in directing policy that enables and supports our teachers to reach their fullest potential while keeping a primary focus on the students.

The following survey is an effort to continue the conversation and include as many Kent community members as possible. Please take some time to answer the following questions and add your thoughts about what you value in education and what current school district policy’s influence and affect your values.

Take the Kent community values survey.

Parents, make your voices heard!

Did you know that your voice can determine:

  1. If you have to plan around half days?
  2. How often grades are posted online?
  3. Whether seniority is the main factor in determining layoffs?

Do you not like your school’s calendar? Do you have a teacher not happy with? Do you want grades posted on a regular basis? The teachers contract is where these issues get resolved. Many districts/unions are beginning their contract discussion now. Find out more in the video below, and contact Brooke Valentine at 253-234-5138 or wavalentine@msn.com.
