In the coming weeks, we'll be asking Washington state residents to tell us how the quality and effectiveness of high school has impacted them.
There are bills in the Legislature that would help - and your representatives need to hear why they would matter.
Here are some ideas to get you thinking:
- I'm a student who is about to graduate, and it looks like I'm going to have to take remedial math my first year in college. I don't know why - I followed the rules.
- I'm a student, and I want to go into construction. My school doesn't offer any related courses.
- I'm a student, and I'm bored. This is stuff is basic. What I'm learning just doesn't relate to the world - and what I see in my parents' careers.
- I'm a parent, and my kid followed the rules - and now she can't get into a college program.
- I'm a teacher, and I'm worried that we aren't offering enough of what kids need to be ready for life - and shouldn't that be my goal as a teacher?
