State Superintendent Randy Dorn will announce Tuesday the results from the first-ever High School Proficiency Exam (HSPE), the successor to the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL). Results will also be released for the Measurements of Student Progress (MSP) test, which is taken by students in grades 3-8.
Students in the classes of 2010-2012 are required to pass the reading and writing portions of the HSPE in order to graduate. Math and science will be added to the requirement beginning with the class of 2013.
The HSPE was designed to be shorter than the WASL exam. The reading, math and science sections can be administered in one day instead of two. Also, 25 percent of students will take the exam online next year.
You can watch the press conference beginning at 11 AM tomorrow via TVW.
