I’m glad they included Juanita Doyon (of the Parent Empowerment Network) in the report. She accurately states the obvious, that standardized tests are by no means indicative of the full range of learning that goes on in a school.
Ms McFarlane’s comment about expecting less is just not true: Those who put little faith the narrow range of standardized tests actually expect MORE: they expect that, as has happened for 100 years, classroom teachers will assess students in art, civics, history, music….ALL the subjects taught, and in more meaningful ways than mere bubble sheets.
