   Smaller class size sounds like it should produce better achievement, but research shows that it does not have a great effect unless the class has 15 or fewer students. It will never happen that classes will be that small. We would need to build schools and there aren’t enough science and math teachers for the class sizes we have now.

   We need to spend money on curriculum and research based educational innovations. Or at least if try something new. Something new that might work. Smaller class size is not the answer. And while I am not opposed to taxes, if a dime goes to this lost cause I am opposed.

   I think our policymakers have also read that research. That’s why the state is spending extra money to keep class sizes lower in K-4, where it makes more of an impact.

   High school class sizes are larger, but that shouldn’t mean classrooms should be stuffed with well over 30 kids. I heard an NPR story on a study that shows there’s a point where class sizes are too big.

   I-1033 wouldn’t raise our taxes. Instead, it would divert state revenue away from education and other important priorities.

   Teachers are already overwhelmed with managing large classes and trying to respond to the needs of 30 plus kids per class. Taking more resources away from our schools means that this problem will be exacerbated. There is a point of diminishing returns. We need to enable teachers to teach and not have to learn crowd control. Our schools need more of our state’s revenues, not less. I-1033 would have unintended negative consequences if it should pass.
