Amid all the controversy generated by pundits and some concerned parents, President Obama addressed the nation’s children today. The message: Be responsible. Work hard to succeed. Stay in school.
I can’t imagine a better way to start school knowing that our President has the best interests of kids in mind. Yet, there was plenty of commentary accusing President Obama of using the speech for political gain. One in particular, Florida Republican Party Chairman Jim Greer accused President Obama of trying to “indoctrinate America’s children to his socialist agenda.” However, after reading an advance copy of the speech, he said, “My kids will be watching the president’s speech, as I hope all kids will.”
It’s a sign that the partisan rhetoric has gone too far when the former first lady speaks out against it.
